Job Description
EQT has an exciting new opportunity for an Automation Specialist, working as part of the Midstream Field Measurement Communications Team. Key responsibilities will include designing through commissioning of all new site communications, developing and executing capital projects, and solving technically complex problems. The successful incumbent will have the opportunity to work with numerous other departments (engineering, automation, SCADA, measurement) and will have the opportunity to spend approximately 50% of their time in the field.
Responsibilities include the following:
Assists in the development of communications plan for all new sites/applications including identification of the most cost effective, reliable communication solution, the development of Network Topology drawings and the inspection and commissioning activities associated with the site;
Assists in the development of the communications capital plan by defining projects to reduce costs, improve reliability, or address forecasted growth. Plan is based on the completion of path studies/propagation surveys, data analysis of communication failures and/or performance indicators, communication price models, and projected growth locations;
Manages/executes all projects (capital & O&M;) for assigned district(s), including development of capital funding request, material requisitioning, contractor management and financial accounting;
Assists in the evaluation of new communication technologies and the applicability of such technologies to EQT's infrastructure;
Monitors the overall effectiveness and efficiency of communications infrastructure on a daily basis;
Troubleshoots existing telecommunications problems including site visits when necessary;
Provides technical support and training to measurement/instrument technicians;
Ensures the flow of accurate and reliable information from the remote devices to the end users; and
Develops and maintains documentation of the current communications infrastructure.
Required Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of data communications mediums including land line (phone), cell phone, radio, satellite, and circuit;
Demonstrated knowledge of varied hardware transmission technologies including rs232, rs485, rs422, USB and ethernet;
Understanding of gas engineering principles and gas measurement standards including AGA 3, AGA 7, AGA 9 and the National Electric Code;
Basic understanding of electronics and circuits. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve power and signal anomalies;
Knowledge of RTUs. Understanding of digital and analog I/O, programming, and troubleshooting;
Strong written, oral and project management skills; and
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, telecommunications, engineering or related field;
At least two years of experience in the communications field which demonstrates a knowledge of various industry protocols and standards like DNP3, MODBUS, RS-232, Ethernet and fiber optic communication; or
An equivalent combination of education and experience;
Strong communication and project management skills;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; and
Propagation modeling and line of site studies experience preferred.
Salary grades 12/14; this job is part of a career ladder. Candidate will be placed into the job on the career ladder that best suits their abilities and experience level.
